The Scariest Things

On Halloween you see strange things,

in the blackness that night brings.

So be brave, when you go out trick-or-treating…

The scariest things you will be meeting!

Just down the street lives Old Mister Tweezer.

Who comes to the door dressed as Julius Caesar.

He makes you say “Thank-you” and “Please,”

and smells like he’s made out of cheese.

Two doors down, Mr. and Mrs. Malarky,

have a nervous little dog named Sparky.

All three come running to the door.

Sparky barks, then barks some more.

Slim Dowingo has the T.V. on,

and looks like he’s about to yawn.

He wears fuzzy slippers on his feet,

his furnace is on, you can feel the heat.

The Barkums have clearly been drinking,

their speech is slurred, their breath is stinking.

They make you come inside and pose,

they pat your head, and tweak your nose.

In this little shack lives Widow Mulrew,

she got quite a nose, let me tell you.

Her hands are clammy, and covered with spots,

something fishy simmers in one of her pots.

Be extra careful at the hippie’s house,

you might just get bit by a mouse!

It smells like incense, and bare feet, too.

On top of that, they give you tofu .

We don’t know his name, he’s the loner—

I think he used to live in Arizona.

He’s quiet, or slow, or maybe just dumb.

He gives out wads of A.B.C gum.

The Frinkle’s have strange misshapen faces,

and look like they could use some braces.

They live down by the railroad track,

and drop live earthworms in your sack.

Beware of Officer McGrudy!

He thinks he still on duty.

He frisks you, and shines a bright light.

Then searches your sack, and reads you your rights.

On Halloween you see many strange things.

in the blackness that night brings.

So be brave, when you go out trick-or-treating…

The scariest things you will be meeting!
